Just like our series of foundation calculator or footing calculator this wall footing calculator allows you to enter the dimensions of a wall footing and calculates the volume of concrete you need for your foundation project.

The calculator has a user friendly interface that let you enter length, width, and height of wall as well as the footing strip. It features both the slider and the manual input entry.

Once you have obtained the volume required for concrete, you can use our other concrete mix calculator to get the value of cement, sand, and aggregate for particular grade of concrete.

What is strip footing?

A strip footing is a type of shallow foundation that is used to support a wall or a row of columns. It consists of a continuous strip of concrete that is poured at the base of the wall or column line. The width of the strip is typically the same as the width of the wall or column it is supporting, and the thickness is typically 6 inches or more.

One of the main benefits of strip footing is that it is relatively simple and inexpensive to construct, compared to other types of foundations. It is also suitable for use on sites with stable soil conditions.

One potential drawback of strip footing is that it may not be suitable for supporting heavy loads or for use on sites with unstable soil conditions. In these cases, a deeper foundation such as a spread footing or pile foundation may be more appropriate.

Overall, strip footing is a suitable option for supporting relatively lightweight structures on stable soil conditions. It is often used in residential construction and can be a good choice for smaller buildings or additions to existing structures.

Steps to Estimate quantity of concrete for strip footing

To estimate the quantity of concrete needed for a strip footing, you will need to know the dimensions of the footing and the desired thickness. Here are the steps to follow:

  1. Determine the width and length of the strip footing.
  2. Determine the desired thickness of the footing. This is typically specified in the building plans or by a structural engineer.
  3. Calculate the volume of the footing by multiplying the width, length, and thickness. For example, if the footing is 1 meter wide, 2 meters long, and 0.30 meters thick, the volume would be 0.6 cubic meters.
  4. Convert the volume to cubic yards. One cubic meter is equal to approximately 1.30 cubic yards. Using the previous example, the volume in cubic yards would be 0.77 cubic yards.
  5. Determine the density of the concrete being used. This is typically given in pounds per cubic foot. For example, if the density of the concrete is 150 pounds per cubic foot, you will need approximately 11,550 pounds of concrete (150 pounds/cubic foot * 77 cubic feet).
  6. Order or purchase the required amount of concrete from a ready-mix supplier or mix your own on site using a concrete mixer.

Keep in mind that these are just estimates, and it is always best to order a little bit more concrete than you think you will need to ensure that you have enough. It is also a good idea to have a little bit left over for any necessary repairs or adjustments.
